Rutherford Cancer Centres are built and managed by Rutherford Health plc, the forerunners in innovative cancer care and leading developers of proton beam therapy centres in the UK and beyond. The centres take their name from renowned scientist and Noble Prize winner, Ernest Rutherford, whose contribution to identifying (1909-1919) and naming of the proton (1920) saw him recognised as the father of nuclear physics.
A treatment Chemo Cookery is 'very familiar' with. I had to travel 50 miles for my 20 sessions of radical radiotherapy. I thought I was prepared mentally, WRONG. I learned a lot from the 6 week long experience, especially when it comes to libation and nutrition.
The whole process made me realise that I placed too much emphasis on my Chemotherapy treatment. If I have to undergo radiotherapy again, which I'm well aware is entirely possible, then I'll be better prepared than before.
That's the benefit of 'having walked the walk', and, crucially, it highlights why AWARENESS and knowledge is a key component in preparing your body AND MIND, for any form of Cancer treatment.
Rutherford Cancer Centres are all about the patient.
Speaking earnestly from my first hand walking in the cancer shoes, reading chapter and verse about, not only my illness, but that of the many patients, carers and family members on this journey, I'm determined to have a depth of understanding about the aspects of the illness that I feel I may be able to bring something 'to the table'. (pun intended).
I'll be devising and creating nutritious recipes aimed at helping fellow patients. In my experience any distraction from Cancer, however short, is welcome. A lot of the vegetables I use are from my garden, where I have now got a 'mini allotment, this is both therapeutic and inspires me to focus on fresh green vegetables such an important part of boosting our battered immune systems during treatment.
I concentrate on foods that are protein and calcium rich, I am not qualified enough to delve deeply into the science of it all (besides I want to keep it fun and colourful).
